Everything in moderation really. I've seen too many animes that have been spoiled by too much of it, but I'll give the animators this; as far as business goes, it does sell.

Off Topic : I'm probably out of line for saying this, but I think discussion isn't a very good thread title, as it doesn't actually explain what the thread is about...

Promisies of fanservice are all well and gd but some animes come up short (lol) of fanservice on the whole but its always gd to have a little something to tantalise the viewers

haha, that says it all then. One thing that did come up when I was in FP yesterday was Air Gear's Simca, and I remembered this thread. Early on in the series, to say Simca acts a little sluttish is an understatement, however a lot of animes do have a light hearted opening to them and later progress to be a lot more serious and Simca as a character is no exception to this rule. However to some people, her earlier actions and blatent fanservice nature stops them from watching that far into the series and so she'll always have that bad reputation. An over the top amount of fanservice early on can give a character a bad name. As for the simca model, the idea is a great one, but the face looked too childish shame too..

The childish, weird and light-hearted openings all kinda gets people to sink in with which character they like and which they don't before they bring up the serious stuff, like in AirTV, who would have expected the ending from the first few intro episodes... And Simca, lol, after the match against butcher...

I have to agree that too much fanservice really does kill an anime/manga.
Although, I have a neat little trick to help me put up with it: I once heard a sound clip from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged series which said "FANSERVICE!" really stupidly, and now I hear that everytime I see a form of fanservice.
Hayate the Combat Butler used fanservice as a quick breaking-the-forth-wall pun every so often (more so in the first anime series).

Just Adam? Why not just "Adam"?

If it's not obvious and blends in with whatever's going on, that's fine. If it's really blatant, then it's just terrible. Dunno if anybody here is watching Needless this season, but that's an example of going way overboard with panty-shots. I realise it's part of the style, but sheesh.

It makes me really uncomfortable and will stop me watching. Especially if it's in something hideously mysoginist in the first place.

I agree, izzy, I hate anyone/anything that is misogynistic or male chauvinistic.

I agree with Adam, if it's very subtle and not omfg panties, then it's ok. I understand that having a beautifully animated woman who is a little on the bustier side is a great marketing pull. However, if anyone has seen Colourful, it's SO full of fanservice it makes fun of it. The men in the series never get what they want out of it anyways and it's hilarious.
