Well, hello there! Since there's an introductory board, I might as well contribute!
Well, my name is Dom, but most people tend to call me Vaise (pronounced like the thing you put flowers in) or just Vai (sounds like 'eye')
I've been into anime and cosplay for god knows how long, and I've gone to multiple anime/manga/cosplay events over the past 4 years.
I started off with a mini-convention, that was held in a bookstore, and ran by Tokyo-Pop. This is when I really first got into cosplay, making my own costumes since it's more fun than buying them ^w^
I then decided to take a step up and head to the London MCM Expo, back in 2008, twice again in 2009, and so far, I've gone to the May one in 2010. End of next month is the October Expo, and I'll be going to that, however, I won't have an elaborate costume this time, since I didn't have much time, or money to make anything over the summer, plus it would have been a bit awkward lugging everything as I moved into Uni!
My list of Anime/Manga that I love is rather extensive, but just a few I can pull out are:
Anime -
Devil May Cry
Hellsing
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
Ginga Densetsu Weed
Fruits Basket
Trinity Blood
FMA
Wolfs Rain
Bobobo-bo bobobo
Gurren Lagann
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Manga -
Vampire Knight
Bleach
FMA
Legendz
Hellsing
Rorouni Kenshin
and there are probably many many others, but I always have a brain fart whilst trying to recall things like this!
I'm also one for the videogame genre, and to be honest, all of my cosplays that I've made are actually video game characters, buuuuut, only one of them hasn't starred in an animated series based off itself.
Cosplays that I own:
Link - Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess
This was a collaboration cosplay between myself and a friend. She had slightly better sewing skills than me at the point in time, plus her sewing machine works! She made the tunic, hat and helped paint my Ordon Shield. I made the Vambraces, shin guards, sword and shield.
Link - Ordon - Legeng of Zelda, Twilight Princess
Again, another quick collaboration cosplay between myself and the same friend. We found out about a micro-convention a week before it was being held, so quickly blitzed together this version, since it was summer, and my Tunic gets very hot inside cramped places like a bookstore.
Naruto Uzumaki - Naruto: Shippuden
I regret to say that I own this ._.; It was a bit of a pressure buy, for yet another micro-convention that I found out a week before, and didn't have time to make anything. So I bought this from a cosplay store. It's nicely made, but I don't really enjoy wearing it for two reasons. A) It's Naruto, and b) It was bought.
Seras Victoria - Hellsing
This was probably one of the quickest cosplays that I've made, thought not my best, it served it's purpose and was easily recognisable.
Rookie - Halo: ODST
This is by far, my most expensive, and pain inducing cosplays I have EVER made. The materials cost around £200 and it took about 6 months to make, as well as fitting in college. I ran out of money towards the end of it, that's why it doesn't look quite like how I wanted it to, and if I have about £50 more when I was getting towards the final stages, it would have met an AMAZING standard. Only one problem with this, was I don't quite have the structure for an ODST, so I look rather skinny and kinda lost in it all, however much it is built to scale to my body. This is made from Resin, Fibreglass and Car body filler.
Keith - Left 4 Dead 2
This is my latest, and cheapest cosplay, bar my first Link. Link v1 (I no longer own, since it was improved), cost me around £7-10? This has cost me around £15-20, and is just pretty much every day clothes.
For those who don't know who Keith is, Keith is a character, that one of the main characters continually bring up into the game, as a form of comic relief for such a disasterous scenario, like the Zombie apocalypse.
I have hand sewn THREE medkits, since two of my other friends are going as a 'Fallen Survivor', and Chicago Ted (another unseen character in the game. The only reference to CT however, is 'No Zombie is safe from Chicago Ted', scrawled on a bathroom wall).
The reason why this is my most simple cosplay, is because I really didn't have enough room to bring anything else!
As for NON-Cosplay/Anime/Manga stuff:
I'm currently based in Frenchay Campus in UWE, naturally. Sat up in my room in Brecon Court. I'm studying a foundation year in science, then going up to do Forensic Biology for my next year.
I'm from the rubbish area slap bang in the middle between Portsmouth and Southampton, in a place called Fareham....aaand that's about it!
Vai out!
