There was a bit of a discussion forming in the introductions board, and that's kinda the wrong place for this. But Endless Eight deserves discussion!
For those who don't know, Endless Eight is the main story arc (only arc?) in the second season (or season 1.5 or whatever they called it) of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It consists of the exact same plot, repeated in 8 episodes, with new animation and maybe slightly differing dialogue in each episode. It was a travesty, and everybody hated it. Including the staff who worked on it.
Still, it was pretty hilarious somehow.
I mentioned in the other thread that the DVDs sold well. When I say well, I mean well given that it was the same shit repeated again and again - it sold about half of what the first season of Haruhi did, which is still more than it deserves, I'd say.
So what do you guys think?

"Travesty" A rarely used word, but couldn't be more precise when describing Endless Eight. I must be masochistic or something to have actually watched each individual episode. My thoughts at the time were "I'll watch every episode and when it's finally over the very fact that it ended would be reward enough." In the end this was my only opinion:

From what I hear, it sounds like an interesting concept. It was clearly done (from what I've heard) for a reason and not just because the people producing it were idiots. Is there some kind of message behind it? Something people may have missed? (A... Conspiracy!?)

I watched it all as well Loz. It didn't strain me too much though, the marginal differences were enough each week, and I don't think I was watching much other anime at the time.
It's an interesting concept indeed Widgey, but very bizarre in practice. I can't help but agree that it must have been done for a reason, though I'm hesitant to believe the reason is anything other than trying to profit off Haruhi fans.
Then again... They really DID re-animate it every episode. It's not like they re-used much in the way of animation/voices. Which makes it all the more puzzling - surely if they went to that effort, they could have just done different arcs or whatever.
Maybe you're right. Maybe we have a conspiracy on our hands!
