LARP?

Hai guys!
I'm just gauging interest and stuff, but I think it'd be a hell of a lot of fun to start our own LARP game. For those not in the know, LARP is Live Action Role Play. There are a few places around that run games, and I'd really like to try them out, HOWEVER, most of these games are the D&D style rule-heavy variety that involve combat via foam weapon and a lot of levelling up. While there is a lot of 'political' character-driven stuff, I'd rather have a game that actually focussed on that aspect.
So I propose, if anybody is interested, coming up with a genre we can all agree on, and every month or couple of months we'll find a place and have ourselves a nice, character-driven LARP. I've heard it referred to as 'theatre' style LARP, because it's a lot like improv theatre just without an audience - essentially I'm talking the Live Action version of the forum-or-chat based role playing we do that's all about character as opposed to fighting and leveling up.
Would anybody be interested in an event like this?

sounds very interesting. Count me in! if fighting is out of the question, then the next most common genre would be romance...? or maybe sports. =P I'd hardly think Mecha would make a good LARP

There's loads, Lorien trust is another big one, and there's few others, but as far as I'm aware they're all the combaty, rule heavy foam-weapons-and-throwing-spell-packets kind, I mean I'd love to try one out, but I'd also love to go with something more character heavy. (Lol *later edit* I just clicked the link and realised it was Lorien trust)
And Ricky, by genre I mean like... for example, sci-fi, fantasy, vampire etc

I love the fantasy genres, medfan, vampire intrigues me from my Requiem rps. Hmm thinking of other stuff we could work with from msn rps, Ancient Greek, Ancient Egypt. I can't think of a good Sci-Fi story that wouldn't involve combat but someone else might be able to ^_^

Looking at the Lorien Trust they seem to do some non-combat stuff too like spell casting, summoning and side quest type adventures searching for items or new magic. There are quite a few rules though. I think going for a rl version of our kind of roleplays is going to be best really. If we can get enough people then we can definitely start something on our own if there's nothing non-rule heavy around.

Yea, I mean lorien and stuff DO sound like a lot of fun, but the rules are a bit daunting ^^ I'd totally wanna try one out, but also do this, as you say, rl version of our kind.
I mean we don't even need that many people, if there's a few that are up for it we can find ourselves a place, write ourselves a scenario and go for it, I think it'd be great fun! XD

Does beyblade in this case count as LARP. XP j/k but running along the fantasy lines, there was (and maybe still is) a card game in HK which I think kinda fits this sort of thing. Its called "Miracle Of the Zone" or MOZ as most people would call it. I collected them at one point, but i was hard to import them and it was only in chinese, so I stopped a while back. but basically the manga was about people forming teams of 5 and battle other teams by using cards to summon monsters from another dimension called the zone. the monster cards all have numbers on them and basically the user with the highest combined number wins. That is unless 1 or more summoner manages to summon a combo, in which case the better combo wins (the combo ranking is given with everything you buy that is related to that game) the actual card game just took it one step back and gave summoner cards with which you form your own team and use your team to play other players' teams.
I think that is a root thats worth following. Sorry for ranting on about stuff again...

Sounds like a good card game... but for larping purposes, we may as just play Yugioh if we were going to do that. The whole point is that we don't want rules, card games have rules that everyone has to know before you play.

I'm supposed to be going to the Lorien Trust event in a few weeks time but unfortunately I won't have the money due to expo. Nor are my costumes sorted. I will however be going to all four Maelstrom events next year, cash flow permitting.
