I have always firmly believed and will continue to believe that consoles are diabolical creations of the devil set upon this world to kill the only pure and good type of gaming; PC-gaming. However, I view handhelds to be a lesser evil as they don't compete with the PC per say. I have owned a Gameboy Colour and Advance myself in fact and I enjoyed playing them, I didn't feel like I was cheating on my computer.
Now, I have been more and more tempted to lay my hands on a DS, as you all guys seems to enjoy having one and it could be good to have something to bring with me next time I have a 3 hour break in between seminars. I was thinking of taking care of this when I go back to Sweden this summer, but buying a DSi for £159 beats buying one for £220. Problem is I am lost in the console swamp and what better way is there to find a guide than on this forum?
What's the difference between a DSi, a DS and a DSLite?
Can I play the same games on them all?
Are games expensive?
Is it worth buying a DS or should I go for a PSP instead?
Won't the DS be replaced for something better soon?
If I buy one, what games are recommended, should I try and Catch 'em All too?
Is Chrono trigger a complete rip-off of the old SNES game or did they add/remove anything?

Right... time to go into Game employee mode!
What's the difference between a DSi, a DS and a DSLite?
DS: plays DS and GBA games only, screen is very basic, cheap but hard to get replacement chargers etc for
DS Lite: DS and GBA games only, much better screen, much more common
DSi: More expensive, DS games only, camera, internet access
Can I play the same games on them all?
All DS games, with the odd exception (only Style boutique and guitar hero off the top of my head), GBA games on the DS and DS Lite
Are games expensive?
£5-£30, depends on what you want
Is it worth buying a DS or should I go for a PSP instead?
DS has a wider range of games, PSP has far less and in general aren;t as good.. easier to hack if you get the right one though!
Won't the DS be replaced for something better soon?
theres something in development, won't be out till at least 2012-2013, DSi XL was just released (pretty much the same as the DSi... just BIGGER!)
If I buy one, what games are recommended, should I try and Catch 'em All too?
Pokemon, Zelda, Mario Games, Castlevania, Brain Training, Disgaea, Advance Wars.. i could go on
Is Chrono trigger a complete rip-off of the old SNES game or did they add/remove anything?
Off the top of my head, it had 2 added dungeons and an added weapon, its an amazing game anyway though
hope that helped, can give you quotes on games off the top of my head if you want! (not 100% accurate, but will be close enough)

No. No. No. If you want to play Disgaea it's best to get a PSP. The Disgaea DS game is an incredibly scaled down version of the PSP port. Of course you'd need to have prior experience of Disgaea to consider getting it in the first place. Apart from this one problem I can't think of any better reasons than what Gathius gave to get a DS.
