Seriously you guys, what the hell. If someone walked in and saw, they'd think we were all geeks or something.
I guess you're all playing Pokemon SoulSilver, because nobody likes HeartGold. How is it, any good? Is the Pokewalker fun at all?
...Should I buy it already? I left my copy of Pearl at home and after seeing you guys playing up a storm today it's the thing I'm missing the most.
Also, fighting is the best type.

The pokewalker isn't as intuitive as I thought it would be - you don't actually earn experience from it, it's more like "whenever you put a pokemon in it and walk around a little, your pokemon will level up by 1" I know this because I had my stupid Togepi in it for a week on the trot, earned 1500 watts and he only levelled from lvl 2 to 3.
I had a lot of fun with it over Easter - but I left it at home to focus on studies. Current objective (story): Speak to the Kimono Girls and have them lead me to Lugia. Current objective (personal): Evolve Dratini into Dragonair and level up whole party to lvl45. Current party (can't remember levels, no particular order): Typhlosion Feraligatr Meganium Scisor Noctowl (will be replaced by Dragonair, once it's leveled up) Pupitar (can't wait until it reaches lvl55).
I have to disagree about fighting being the best type - the only decent fighting type is Lucario (IMHO). I think Steel is the best type - there isn't a single steel type that isn't awesome (even if it's only appearance-wise and not stat-wise). Also, out of all types, Steel has the best defensive game when it comes down to type advantages.

If you want defence then get a lv100 Magikarp. UTTERLY useless but the best defence in the game! haha.
I like the pokewalker, it's a nice add on to the main game and takes it outside of your solo DS ventures adding an immediate social aspect instead of faffing with the Wifi and such. We were clogging up hallways at the last con I was at 'Gifting' each other. You can catch certain pokemon much earlier in the game by using the pokewalker and I think some that aren't even available in your region but I'm not too sure on that one. It's cute and quirky but by no means a main point to the game. As previously said your pokemon only earn 1level per trip out, probably to stop you from walking around until something's level 100 before you even get to the first gym!
By reusing the Silver/Gold (I'm Silver, my partner is Gold just to be picky) they already had a basis for the game so they seem to have spent their time improving and redesigning. Everything looks so much nicer and the menu is moved to the touch screen making things much easier instead of that bloody thing I only ever used as a watch in Diamond.
They've also added the Pokeathalon. It's a pokemon olympics in different catagories like jumping, strength etc. A VAST improvement on the beauty competition thing as each section is different and if you use a pokemon in the Speed competition that isn't good at speed then it will SUCK instead of just hoping your user imput will bring home the gold.
I'll stop myself now... I'm only a couple of gyms in since I've been too busy with work to actually have a hardcore DS session yet but in closing I'll say that HeartGold and SoulSilver can be seen as rip offs of older more popular games but they're most certainly not. If you have the money around definitely think about investing ^^
